“American exceptionalism” doesn’t seem to be what it used to be anymore does it? The place is a mess. No confidence with folks running around with their collective tails between their legs. Millions have been unemployed literally for years, and the political wave they just sent to Washington is ready to cut the strings on their safety net and any and all of their benefits. America the brave? No so much anymore. People are scared of everything – liberals, communists,…
In May of 2005, or exactly five years and five months ago, a little-known Senator from Illinois named Barack Obama passed his first ever piece of federal legislation, the “Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act” co-sponsored by a certain Senator John McCain. Things have changed a wee bit since then, but one thing has remained the same. Since then, or for the past 281 weeks, Tiger Woods has been ranked the No.1 golfer in the world. Until this past Monday….
What’s the biggest story in sports right now? The NHL season kicked off and the hottest team in hockey is the Toronto Maple Leafs – but that’s not it. The MLB post-season is in full flight yet the Yankees-Rangers ALCS game was out-rated by a lame 30-3 blowout MNF matchup between the Jags and the Titans. So that ain’t it either. Golf is in it’s Fall Series, which is for all the also-rans trying to get into the Top 125…
If you weren’t aware – and the chances this year that you weren’t are pretty good – the most recent Major League Baseball season has come to an end. All season long local and national TV ratings were brutal. Worse still was the attendance. In the past three seasons, butts in seats have seen a seven percent plunge meaning 5.5 million fewer folks were taking in the games. Now it’s post-season time when everyone’s interest in baseball is supposed to…
In Wales this weekend Corey Pavin’s Team USA will take on Colin Montgomery’s Team Europe in the 38th edition of the international extravagonzo known as the Ryder Cup. However, if you are talking about pro golf, the story always has to start and end with Tiger Woods, still the No.1 player in the world despite not having won anything since his flirtation with that fire hydrant. He certainly started off the week with a bang – for the ever so…
I am a seriously techno-savvy guy. I can build a PC from scratch. I am conversant a whole slew of computer languages, and programming suites and have created about 100 websites or so. Gadgets? You name it, I’ve owned it. I am now on my fourth iPhone. I have a hilariously nerdy home set up with media servers, numerous digital outputs for content, whatever it is, throughout my place. I’m a geek, okay? So, when the flatscreen in our bedroom…
The NFL opening weekend was, for a whole bunch of teams thought to be Super Bowl contenders, a complete bust. But the biggest upset of ‘em all occurred on Thursday when the defending Super Bowl Champs New Orleans Saints faced off against the Minnesota Vikings. Not the game. It ended as expected with the Saints coming out on top. No – this was about all 32 NFL owners who now know they are in for a tough labour fight. They…
With bated breath, we await the kickoff of what should be a classic season opener and all fans everywhere are dreaming of, if everything goes just right, a Super Bowl season, however not everything is looking up, Up UP in the NFL. Because attendance is going DOWN, Down, down. The mighty NFL’s overall attendance is expected to drop for the third straight season this year and overall the gate could be the lowest since 1998 with some teams even facing…
In the past, there were zero things the NFL did that had not been focus group tested and retested before being introduced to the game. One example of this was instant replay, which was tried and tweaked in pre-season games literally for years before the rules committee finally accepted it and forced it upon us all. Welcome to the brand new NFL because this season, out of the blue and for a decidedly weird reasons, they’ve introduced a new wrinkle…
He’s not going down without a fight. You’ve got to hand it to him for that at least. That said… is Roger Clemens in-frikin-sane? Last week the multiple-Cy Young award winner was indicted in U.S. federal court, charged with lying to Congress about never taking steroids. Immediately afterwards he stated, through his team of lickspittle attorneys, that he would prove his innocence once and for all and was looking forward to his day in court. Hilariously, that might even be…
